proportioning valve

Removal & Installation

  1. Rear wheel lock-up or skidding indicates faulty proportioning valve. See PROPORTIONING VALVE IDENTIFICATION table. Road test vehicle to determine which rear brake system is faulty.
  2. Remove brakeline from suspect proportioning valve. See Fig 2. Remove proportioning valve from master cylinder. For 1999 Sebring Convertible, install Pressure Test Fitting (8187 or 8187-2), or for all other models, install Pressure Test Fitting (6805-1 or 6805-2), into master cylinder outlet port. Install proportioning valve into pressure test fitting.
  3. Install 1999 Sebring Convertible Pressure Test Fitting (8187), or Pressure Test Fitting (6805-3 or 6805-4) for all other models, into proportioning valve. Connect brakeline to pressure test fitting. Install Pressure Gauge (C-4007-A) into each pressure test fitting. See Fig 3.
  4. Bleed hoses and gauges. Have an assistant depress and hold pressure on brake pedal. Note and record pressure gauge readings. If inlet or outlet pressure readings do not agree with specifications, replace proportioning valve. See BRAKE PRESSURE table.
