2001 Durango sl...P1686 code and am having trouble with alarm and doors not staying armed and locked.
JA: How many miles are on the car? Has this ever happened before?
Customer: 87000....recurring problem for a while
JA: Are you fixing your Durango yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: If I can....used manual and got a code a used CTM but have not replaced it yet...
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: replacement info as to the vehicle starting if I switch it out....if delay do not have the time now

Hello, I see no one has answered yet so I will try and help.

The Central Timer Module would need coding in with main dealer level access software.

The P1686 dtc refers to a lack of communication to the immobiliser unit.

Can a technician with obd 111 equip. reprogram the new CTM for me/

It depends if it is an intermittent fault, or the unit is crashing, etc. . . . . I was wondering if with the issues were intermittent, and the code possibly also, it was a side thought to your question of the car starting after the CTM changing.

Main dealer level equipment is needed unfortunately, general diy and independent tools do not usually have the software and required security codes.
