YES, it can be related to the camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor and or engine timing.

Ok, then yes, I would check the cam senor, crank sensor and the timing marks.

The number 1 most common thing would be incorrect valve timing.

Then the cam or crank sensor and then the PCM

Do the timing belts jump timing often from your experience

Just from lack of maintenance, I'm guessing

That or if one of the pullies inside the timing cover start to go bad the timing belt will get loose and jump time.

It's been awhile since I was in the service side of cars. So not really sure what to do in this case but it's coming back now. Just trying to help out a good friend. I'll check timing first and then test cam and crank sensors out.
