Customer Question

98 ram 2500 V10 2WD
Engine starts and runs but wont idle. I can use the accelerator pedal to hold it at 7-900rpm. engine is smooth and all vacuum is intact. Under the battery box is a device with cable linkage to the throttle . it is hooked to the same arm as the accelerator pedal. it has a vacuum and electrical connection.

the device also attached to the throttle that has a vac line and connector is going ot be you cruise control module. if you dont hold the accelerator does it just stall or does it try to idle hunt?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
it stalls if i dont hold the accelerator. Now if is a vacuum leak, I would not be able to hold it even with the accelerator at that low of idle based on past trouble shooting on other cars. but thats a guess.

depends on the size of the vac leak. a small one will increase the rpms a large one you are correct will stall out the engine. to me it sounds like you are not getting enough air into the engine so thats why it works better if you hold throttle. have you scanned it for any codes pending or current?

No codes or i should say i have no engine light.

Expert:  mike switzer replied 8 months ago.

iacvalve is a common failure. is there a reason you are unable to test it?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
not sure where it is. Don't have a book. Is it on the top of the intake? 2 screws?
Expert:  mike switzer replied 8 months ago.
