OK. Is there a way to tell if the ignition switch is still on when the key is in the off position? The radio does turn off. I know little else at this point because my battery charger informs me that the charge is at 40%. The portable checker shows a low voltage code but also shows a transmission error. I feel the transmission thing may be more of an effect than a cause.

Make sure the instrument panel is not lit, (odometer, lights, etc.) with the door closed.
