Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

The most likely cause for the key not turning to the lock position and coming out would be the transmission not fully in park. The electronic interlock system will prevent the key from turning past the unlock position if it doesn't see that the shifter is in park, either due to a mechanical or electrical issue, or the shifter not actually being in park.

Have you moved te shifter back to gear and then back to park?

Are there any warning lights on?
