Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

Outside of the mechanical issue you found there will also be electrical issues. Your engine controller won't have the capability of controlling the overdrive clutch on a four speed trans, you'd either have to run the overdrive solenoid off a toggle switch, find an aftermarket control system or swap in the engine controller, fuel system and wiring from the later vehicle.

Are you working on a truck or van?

What engine do you have and what engine was in the vehicle the trans came from?

Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 1 year ago.

Can you elaborate on what you're referring to as the coupler shaft?
