The engine run and the drive shafts seem to be spinning. The is a clunking noise when I put it back in pa r k
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

Uh oh. The final drive in the tranny just went south. Disassembly is required

Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

Sorry man. It sucks but the tranny has to come out

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
are you saying the transmission is shot? The noise seems to be coming from the rear end
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

You didnt mention the noise was coming from the rear.

How did you confirm the shaft was turning?

Hope you didnt have it off the ground and assumed that becauise the wheels turned and you assumed the rear diff was engaged..

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Jack the truck up put it on gear and climb under the truck. The drive shafts was spininng.
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

But was it under a load....probably not. In other words can you stabilize the shaft and see if it slips?

Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

centrifical force can make the shaft turn but when a load is applied (like the diff gears kick in) if the rear diff is slipping you wont know unless a load is applied....follow me?

Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

Do you know what rear diff this has..there are 3 options on this truck

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No I don't know which diff is in the truck. Not sure if a load was put on it. With the truck jacked up I applied the ebrake and raised the rpms and it would spin.
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 year ago.

Would the shaft increase rotation with engine rpm?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
From what we have seen yes

Thanks bud. The read diff definitely has something broken inside and will need to come out. Hard to say what exactly because there are a few things it can be. Its very expensive working in there and you might want to price out a good used rear end to be honest with you.
