Dodge Repair Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hello and welcome to just answer. Does it seem to do this when the van sits for a long time like at the first start of the day?
Ok, what it sounds like (if there are no codes) is a fuel pump problem. The pump has a check valve in it that prevents fuel from draining back out of the fuel rail and lines when the van sits. If that check valve leaks, then the fuel prime in the lines is lost and that causes the sputtering at start up. Another thing that will do it is a leaking fuel injector that drips fuel into a cylinder when the van sits. Have your mechanic connect a fuel pressure gauge and check for a fuel pump and/or fuel injector issue. He should be able to determine which one is causing the problem.
If it is a fuel pump, figure on around $500.00 parts and labor to replace it. If it is a leaking fuel injector, then oh around $350.00 parts and labor.
