Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
The ABS and brake light are either on because the ABS module isn't awake or it has seen a problem and set a fault code. This could be many things ranging from the brake switch, ABS module, hydraulic control unit, wiring, and wheel speed sensors. The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to see what fault codes are setting.
Backfiring can be quite a few things depending on when it's happening. It could be a mechanical engine issue, you could have a restricted catalytic converter, it may be lean backfiring due to a failing fuel pump.
Have you checked for fault codes in the powertrain control module?
