Customer Question

I have 96 grand caravan, the instrument cluster comes n goes, most of the time its dead.. i have already pull the cluster n checked for bad solders none was found.. the problem started after i replaced the ignition starter switch, the reason i replaced the starter switch was because radio, wipers, power windows quit,, the new switch solved those issues but then my dash started acting up.. im thinking possible the new started switch is faulty

Have you done the cluster self check to see if the cluster responds?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Nope
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
Ok, one minute
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
will the self check still work if odometer is blank before starting test
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
If the cluster is good and the powers and grounds are good going into it with the key on, then yes, the self test should still work.
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
You should be able to hold the two buttons down on the cluster and then turn the key on and the cluster should go through a self test.
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
Be sure you do this when this when the problem is acting up
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
if it dosnt go thru the self check when th problem is acting up, whats next
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The temp n fuel gauge goes to half way n stays as long as key is on,, the cluster is getting some power
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
If the cluster does not go through the self test and the inputs are good, the cluster is bad and will need to be replaced.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i just did the self test nothing happen
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what inputs are you talking about
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
You need to check the power and ground going into the cluster.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
i need to pull the cluster out n test wires with test light
Expert:  Amedee replied 1 year ago.
You would also need to check the BUS circuit to ensure it is not being shorted out by another module on board the vehicle.
