Customer Question

I have a 2007 Dodge Nitro and like a lot of people that iv seen since researching have a problem with my a/c working when it wants to. U have too start the engine up in the morning and you will hear compressor engage and then go off. u then hv to kill the engine and restart over and over again and all of a sudden it will stay on. It seems that once its running u can count on it coming on again as long as it doesn't sit for very long. My wife goes thru this process every morning and then again in the afternoon after getting off work. I am a HVAC tech. by trade but have limited experience with vehicles. I have had guages on it and the pressures look good when its running and will cool the cabin space with no problem so im guessing its not a refrigerent problem. If anyone has any info that you would mind sharing with me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you......Jason

Do not have any problems with the blower at all. I have noticed that when compressor engages the RPM shoot up and take longer than usual for it to slow back down to idle. I am certainly not the best car mechanic but it seems as though the vehicile idles at very low RPM. I have attempted to raisethe RPM on start up to c if this would help compressor engage but I will be holding it steady at 2000 and when compressor engauges it runs up and u cant maintain a steady RPM.I wanted you to know this as I failed to include in last post. Is there a recall on this or something? Also is this something that I can repair myself? Thank you again for your time and knowledge on this matter. I would be happy to return the favor if you have any problems with your A/C system at home....................Jason

Curb idle should be between 550 and 700 rpm. If you wanted to try something else the pressure switch on the liquid line just as it comes out of the fire wall. you could replace that switch and that may take care of it. give me the last 8 of the vin and i will see if there are any recalls.

Customer replied 248 days and 13 hours ago.

7W554165 is the vin #. Could you tell me if it is a high pressure switch or wht the proper name is XXXXX XXXXX part your talking about? I purchased that same part I believe when I first started but didnt end up putting it on so I took it back to Auto Zone. I cant remember for the life of me what it was called. I checked the curb idle and it was around 600 to 700. When the comp. engages it idles up quite a bit and takes some time for it to idle back down. Usually when you rev the engine it will drop immediatly but not this. I dont ever drive the car so I couldnt tell you if it has always done that.

The idle sounds about right, the name of the switch is pressure transducer

Customer replied 247 days and 14 hours ago.

I will try replacing the transducer you mentioned just as a shot in the dark. So if that doesn't wrk Im guessing it will have to be hooked up to computer system u mentioned earlier. Is there not any recalls?
