I have a popping / clunking feeling in my steering wheel and pedals. I have checked all ball joints and tie rod ends and bearings and havent found any excessive play in any of them that would cause it. It happens intermittently cruising at about 50km/h and lessens when i hit highway speeds. When i rotate the steering column shaft it sounds like the steering gear box and some weird noise , could that be my issue?
Welcome to just answer.com. I'm here to help you and your 100% satisfaction is my goal. Check the bearings and the joints in the steering column first very often the intermediate shaft of the steering column will become loose causing this popping noise
I need more help, when I turn my steering wheel the tie rod off my pitman arm and at the other end of that link kinda pop up when I turn the wheel back and forth. Are the ball sockets worn out ?
Make sure that the sockets are tight and there is no movement up and down or left to right in any of the sockets. If they appear to be tight then loosen the adjusting sleeve and align the two tie rod ends. Most commonly you'll find that one of them is not lined up with the other one causing it to rotate back and forth when you turn the steering wheel
