Customer Question

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 and I'm looking for the cold side of the brake pedal stoplight switch to hook up an electric brake control. The truck didn't have the towing option from the factory.

Hello I'm Paul and I will help you with an Answer to your Question

the White with Tan Stripe is the load side (only hot when brake is applied)

let me know if you need more help

There is no white w/tan strip wire. The six wire colors are tan w/red strip, white w/orange strip, purple w/white strip, purple w/ yellow strip, black w/orange strip and green w/white strip. That is also the order or the wires when the connector is plugged in if you're looking at it from underneath with the tan w/red strip being towards the rear of the truck.

Which connector are you unplugging?

I was giving you the color of the wire that comes out of the brake light switch above the pedal

The only plug I have on my brake pedal support is the plug with 6 wires coming out.

Could you take a picture of the connector it seems

pin 2 is the one you are looking for which is supposed to be white with tan.

pin 1 should be grey with red..

this diagram only shows the 1 and 2 pins that are part of the brake light circuit.

if you could snap a photo of the connector showing the wires would be helpful.. (click the large paper clip and browse to image and click ok)

but it certainly seems that the one you are calling "White with Orange" would be the brake light signal (once pressed)

It has a plunger that is depressed in when the brake pedal is raised. I will try to add a picture when I get to my computer.

Yes it sounds like you are on the right switch

the exterior lighting diagram only shows the wires in the brake light circuit

so pins 1 and 2

pin 1 Grey with Red Stripe

pin 2 White with Tan Stripe

it looks like Pin1 is going to be the one your identifying as Tan with Red Stripe

and pin 2 is going to be the one your identifying as White with Orange stripe.

Pin 2 would be the wire you are looking for.

Use pin #2 White with Orange Stripe.

You can also easily confirm this by conencting a test light clamp side to ground and backprobe the White with Orange Stripe... then step on the brake the test light will light

let me know if you need more help
