the dealer says my heads are warped and the motor is shot. he never removed heads, so how does he know they are warped. I have white smoke in exhaust and motor runs rough and is difficult to keep running. they want me to put in a new motor. is this because it is easier and more lucrative

Hi, glad to be of help. With white smoke comming out the exhaust it is evident that the engine has overheated and blew the head gasket. This fact normally will result in a warped head that will need to be resurfaced. Depending how hot and how long the duration of overheating, it could have caused further damage to the engine requiring boring and replacing pistons. To be on the safe side of their liability for repair, most shops will recomend replacing the engine with a new or remanufactured long block. This is normally faster, easier and cheaper than to take your engine apart to rebuild your engine only to find more damage from the overheating. It's not a more lucrative issue since they would make more labor rebuilding than to replace, but it's more of a warranty issue and knowing the job is done right and there won't be further problems that they would be held liable for. The company that they get the engine from be it factory or aftermarket will have a longer warranty than they could provide if they rebuilt it. It's more of knowing you as a customer will be satisfied and won't have problems down the road that are unforseen.

Customer satisfaction means more to them then money. They actually make less money with a replacement engine but they don't want to take the chance of you spending all that money, then having to throw more money at it shortly thereafter. They want a happy satisfied customer, not an angry customer.
