Customer Question

You helped so much on my AC. Every few months the AC clutch fuse blows I can't figure out what the problem might be. Just a about an hour ago I found out that I have a bad battery and wonder if that could cause a surge and blow the fuse.

Hello and welcome to Just Answer!

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner!

A bad battery will not cause fuse #15 to blow. The only things that will cause the fuse to blow is a short to ground on the dark blue/yellow wire going from the fuse box to the compressor clutch coil or a shorted clutch coil. Since the problem is intermittent, I would suspect you have a failing clutch coil. The first thing I would do is visually check the wiring leading to the compressor clutch and see if there might be a spot where the wiring is rubbed through or pinched and touching ground. A short in the wiring can be difficult to find when the problem is intermittent and often the best way to find the problem is by performing a visual inspection of the wiring.

I hope this helps, let me know!

Thank you,

Richard
