2002 dodge grand caravan sport wont start. Runs for about 2 seconds then cuts off. After a few tries its like it completely locks out the starter and wont even try to turn over. Anti theft light is on. Ive read in a lot of forums where the instrument cluster is suspect but i dont think that is the case with mine.
Welcome to just answer.com. I'm here to help you and your 100% satisfaction is my goal. It's very likely you may have a faulty security module, try using a different ignition key, and also using a scan tool tell me what trouble codes are being stored in the memory. Let me know what you find and we will do some further testing very often this is simply a faulty key and if you use a different will start and run
Tried both keys. Get the same results. It may start and run fine for awhile then the anti theft light comes on. Van still runs fine till you stop and shut it off then wont start again. This is third time it has happened. Previous time it started again within 30 to 60 min. This time I've been playin with it for three days. It has restarted twice during the three days but the anti theft light comes right back on and when i shut it off it wont restart. I dont have a code reader but turning the key to on three times reads P 1684 (then) done. I just tried to check the codes again before sending this and all it says is done.
This can be caused by a number of things possibly a faulty wiring harness on the engine or a faulty PC M Check the power feeds into the Powertrain Control Module on pins 20 and 46, should be battery voltage. Check the grounds on pins 10 and 50, should be less than 50 mV PCM connected and key on. Pick one sensor and check the voltages at the connector. Check for wiring harness damage on the motor near the valve cover. If the powers and grounds check good, replace the PCM
Hmm. I have no problem checking the voltages if you can tell me where those parts are or maybe a diagram of what your talkin about. I know i checked medium on the level of detail and if this is considered high detail I'd be happy to add a bonus when i except your answer if you could supply me the information.
The pin numbers are printed on the connector itself at the power control module the power control module is located On the left side of the engine compartment near the fender
Pins 20 and 46 have battery voltage. Now im not sure how you want me to check the two grounds. They are good grounds. With negative side of meter on those pins and positive side to battery i got full battey voltage so i assume there good grounds. Checking resistance between those pins and neg battery show full ground.
That sounds good info all of the wiring is good and not damaged and there's no damage to the engine wiring harness then replace the PC M
Dang. Ok. One more thing. I'm looking at a place on line that has refurbed PCM. They say they will program it with my vin and mileage and all needed info. All I'll have to do is plug it in and start the van. Does this sound right. Will it work. Has one year warranty and costs $160.
This is a very good price as long as they do the programming properly it will work just fine thank you
