Hello
welcome to Just Answer. Ok first you need to make sure the battery is good and under a load test, if the battery is weak the BCM will act up causing the cab electrical problems.
Ok if the battery it good you need to check the Instrument Cluster and check the BCM The BCM is Body Control Module this controls everything electrical in the cab like:
head Lights
Radio
Dash lights
Gauges
Dome light
interior lights
power windows
locks
climate control
cruise control
turn signals
horn
alarm
If the BCM is acting up it could be that it just needs reprogramming if it does not take the reprogramming( Flashing) Then the BCM will need to be replaced.
the best way to check the instrument cluster and the BCM is by a software scanner tool that a repair shop or dealer has. This testing only will cost you 40.00 to 85.00 to have done.
Thank you
Where is the BCM located and ball park cost to replace. Can it be reset without special tools . Is there anything I can check before or after the BCM that might cause these problems? Is this a common cause for this problem? Have you personally seen these same problem before on dodge ram trucks.
Thank You
Sam
I am sorry to say the only way to test the modules are with the scanner tool. This will let you know exactly what it could be, like if it's the instrument cluster, Pcm,I called it the BCM in some vehicles it is called the BCM in your vehicle it is called PCM Power Control Module. This shop or dealer will charge you 40 to 90 dollars to test it or reprogram it.
The price of the module control depends on the mark up at the shop.
If you go to the dealer it will cost 90.00 in labor to replace and program it, and the remen depending on if you have a automatic or a manual the PCM cost 2100.00 to 2600.00 dollars. There is a core charge if you do not exchange your old one in for 250.00. Do you know if the person who sold the vehicle to you knew about this problem?
You can not replace this part your self because the new module needs to be reprogrammed with the scan tool and programmed with the new vin number and mileage then tested to make sure it works. They call the computer on your vehicle PCM instead of BCM.
PCM Power Control Module
here is where the PCM is for you to check to make sure the connections are good.
