Welcome to JA. Mike have you checked to see if you have power going to the switch?
I can trace and puncture my probe into that.
What do I do next- if there IS power?
If there IS NOT power?
I don't want to come back in to the computer and ask then
Mike
If you dont have power then you will need to first check for a blown fuse. if you do have power the with the plunger out on the switch check to see if you have power on pin 2 on the connector. if you have power there then you have a broken wire going to the brake lights in the back if you dont have power at the brake lights.

I can do that- I have checked the fuses, but could have screwed up- which one is it?
Sinse the flashers and turn signals work- how could it be a wire going back? Arn't the flasher & turn signal impulses part of the wires comming into this switch?
Fuse number 4 is the one that sends power to the switch its a yellow 20 amp fuse. it could be a wire that runs through the turn signal switch.
I will start with the fuse, then test the wire. If there is power going into the switch, how do I test that it is coming out properly?
What is the wire color for pin 2- output to brake from the switch?
Is that output going directly to the brake light or does it then go the the turn signals?
its white with a tan tracer
the fuse is good
no power on the pink with blue tracer
What is between the fuse block and the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm?
Where should I go next in that pathway?
That wire runs straight to the fuse box so if your not getting power and the fuse is good then the wire is broke you will have to trace it out from the fuse box to the switch to find where it is broken or just run a new wire.
there are 2 #4 fuse locations- one in the recatgular block, and one to the left. Neither was a yellow 20 amp. I want to make sure I am good on the power at the fuseblock before running a new wire (and I will need to tie in a new wire at the fuseblock) how do I access the wires at the fuseblock?
That fuse is in the fuse box under the hood.
