what would cause the ac pressure relief valve to blow off, causing a loss of refrigerant and result in no cooling.

Don Knight :

The main reason for a relief valve to blow is in the condensor.If it is partially blocked it can cause excessive pressure cause the relief valve to open.One other thing that can cause this is if the cooling fans are not working.If the fans are working replace the condensor.I had a problem like this a few months ago and almost did not catch it because the high side fitting was after the condensor and it would show low,not high pressure.Pleae let me know if you need more assistance,Don
