Dodge Magnum: the 5.7 Hemi engine suck a valve..long block

Resolved Question:

I just had an 05 Dodge Magnum with the 5.7 Hemi engine suck a valve destroying the engine. I am looking at a $9,500 long block repair. I heard this is a common problem with this engine. True?

b5demon :

How many miles are on the car?

Customer:

74,922

b5demon :

i have seen a few break valve springs but never bad enough to suck a valve

b5demon :

did you try calling dodge at all to see if they would cover any of the repair?

Customer:

Yes. They are "looking into it." I just need to know if this is prevalent among 5.7 engines. It seems a number of local shops know this early version of the 5.7 is a bad engine.

b5demon :

yes the early ones are the ones that had the valve spring issues and could cause it to swallow a valve
