2000 dodge durango 5.9/ check engine on ( PO 720 code) output shaft speed sensor curcuit. What does this do? Suv operates properly. Exactly where is this sensor and how do you replace it? Is their anything else I should check that may be related to this?

Hello, sorry for delay. On the rear end of the trans is a sensor called the output sensor. It is use to send vehicle speed in formation to the PCM to help with shift control and fuel control functions. If you have not noticed any shift problems nor engine surging etc,, chances are the code was set intermittant. This is still an indictaion that you may have a failing sensor. It is not uncommon for this sensor to go bad. tetsing it does require a scanner so without one, I can only suggest changing it, clearing codes. Easy to change and does not cost much. BTW: it can also affect the speedometer if it fails. It is not a sensor that will leave you stranded in any way
