That light means that the alternator is not charging the battery. It could be many things including a bad battery or connection, alternator, blown alternator fuse, powertrain control module, or the alternator itself. To know for sure what is going on it's going to take some electrical testing with a digital voltmeter to determine the cause. I can help you with this if you are able and want to do some testing.
