1998 dodge ram 1500 2wd 5.9L upper ball joint removal problem. Removed

Customer Question

1998 dodge ram 1500 2wd 5.9L upper ball joint removal problem.
Removed lower ball joint and rotor with no problems. The upper ball joint is covered by what looks like a welded retaining washer covering the upper surface of the ball joint on the pivot arm. The inner portion of the joint stud fell out leaving the housing in tact underneath this welded plate. There are no rivots in this application. Does this flat cover get removed by cutting it out with an air grinder cutting wheel? Please advise what is the correct method of removal in order to finish pressing out the remaining ball joint housing.
