Scott :

Hello, No codes?>

Scott :

Sounds like you may have two different problems - 1- the Roar, 2- The erratic guages.

Customer :

no codes

Customer :

i have no clue what that is can you explain it to me please

Scott :

Thanks , The loud engine may be a fan clutch that is failing to disengage, Is this truck new to you?

Customer :

i got it in jan. so it is new to me

Customer :

what is causing it not to accelerate

Scott :

Ok-Thanks , The fan clutch is designed to freewheel when cold and engage when it gets hot. When a hot engine is shut of the fan clutch is still in the locked position, It takes some time and rpm speed higher than idle to allow the clutch to return to "freewheel" The fan clutched when engaged will cause a roar type noise until it cools the radiator down or disengages.

Scott :

Many times the sound seems like you are excellerating greatly, but what happens when you give it a lot of gas - like 3/4 throttle? Do you have a rpm meter?

Scott :

Does the transmission shift 1-2-3-4?

Customer :

yes when i step on the gas it will accelerate but slow and that roar sound happens

Customer :

its a automatic

Scott :

have you really stepped heavy on the gas to see if it will get more power?

Customer :

yes and its slow but it will smooth out when you hit 45mph

Scott :

A fan clutch will not cause the engine to be less powerfull just louder

Customer :

but when i stop at light and start to accelerate that roar starts and sloe acc.

Customer :

but when it smooths out it has pick up

Customer :

will the fan clutch cause the the slow pick up when accelerating

Scott :

Ok. I think this one needs a test drive by a experenced Tech . You could have a simple problem with a fan cluctch locked up thats tricking you into thinking the engine has low power- they can be very loud! or you may have a concern that has not yet set the check engine light. Most problems will turn that check engine light on quickly.

Scott :

I have been surprised by how loud some fans can be.

Customer :

i took it to day and they where saying some kind of fan and cylinder so dont go by them take it to a dealer

Scott :

A trans problem would set a code very quickly.

Customer :

i hope its not the trans but no codes i was ther watching them with the computer

Customer :

so my best bet it to change the fan clutch and is it ok to drive i do not want to cause more damage

Scott :

i think they were onto the fan clutch failing. Not sure what they meant by a cylinder? No you dont have to take it to a dealer- but try and find a shop that will stannd behind the repairs they recommend ,

Customer :

thanks i just have problems with auto after my last experence i spent over 14 thousand dollars in repairs in less than two years

Scott :

Its ok to drive- but get the fan clutch checked, and have they clean the battery cables and test the battery, A failing battery or bad connections can cause the instrument cluster to go crazy as you described.

Scott :

Wow- can I be your Mechanic LOL?

Scott :

I bet you are glad to get rid of that car

Customer :

thats why i am seeking other help i dont know if i can trust them and being a female that does not help but i do have little knowledge on cars my father use to race so i worked on cars

Customer :

i still have that night mare i am slowly fixing it up

Scott :

Aftermarket fan clutches will be ok for you to use. Glad to hear you have some fun with racing!I have never done that type of work yet.Getting to old to run around LOL

Scott :

There are a lot oof good guys here to bounce your ideas and concerns off of.

Customer :

thank so much now i have something to go on cause it was driving me nut you are never to old you just have to enjoy it i do

Customer :

i will get that tomorrow and put it in and we will see what happens thanks

Scott :

Thanks . i need to go- if I helped please accept- or contact me tomorrow for more info. I will open a question box for you to answer to if needed. Good night.
