2003 ram 1500 4x4: bolt..overdrive..tranny..gears be alright to drive

Resolved Question:

2003 ram 1500 4x4 hemi, red light with lightning bolt started flashing on the hwy, came to a light and lost overdrive, could this be just a sensor or tranny rebuild, and could the rest of the gears be alright to drive for awhile. 280,000 km

This light is flashing due to a problem that the computer has seen in the system.if the over drive has stoped working most likely the trans is overheating and the computer system will turn the overdrive off to make it run cooler.I would have the system scanned for codes to see what is going on and would not keep driving it this way.

could it be a sensor, what would make it overheat, best case scenario what could it be, and worst case how much would a rebuild cost. thanks.

Yes it could be a sensor. you have a trans temp sensor that is in the trans bolted to the valve body this could also be a stoped up trans filter.Thats what I would have the system scanned for fault codes so you will know what is going on.This trans at a dealer will cost abot 17 hundred dollars to have removed and rebuilt.
