2001 Dodge Caravan: se..radiator fans..them to be grounded to frame

Customer Question

2001 Dodge Caravan 3.3 se My radiator fans will not turn on. I found that a bunch of wires had rubbed through on the frame, causing them to be grounded to frame. I discovered this because my headlight went out - do to the wire insulation being rubbed through. One of the wires going to the fan relay (module?) on bumper was rubbed through as well. I fixed wire - fan would not turn on. I replaced fan relay (module?) on bumper and the fan still would not come on. Anything else I should check? Faulty PCM? THanks!!!

would a wiring diagram help you?

Do you have a voltmeter and can you use one?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
A wiring diagram may help. I have a multimeter and I am familiar with how to use it. I have probe and alligator clips. Did I mention that I bought a new fan speed relay (module? solid state speed control?) and tried it? It did not work at all. Same symptoms.

Ok sorry for the late reply. Sort of called it an evening.

Here is a diagram and I will help you through diagnosis to see if you can locate the failure.

It is easier to test this circuit from the fan relay module. Key on (not necessary) look for power and grounds to be intact. Then jump pins #1 and #2 together the fan should run.

Let me know how you do

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I found the wire that was causing the trouble!

The 4th wire from the speed control unit has snapped in half where it wrapped around the frame.

Thank you for your help.
