I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 today it showed a code p1762 and p1763 my truck has a 5.9 with an a/t 4x4. what needs to be fixed
Hello coop,
It may be you just have a bad transmission solenoid and you should replace the pressure sensor with it. I have included a fix for a short to voltage on the downstream o2 sensor. Something to check before throwing parts at the truck.
1762 governor pressure off set to high or to low. try to see if you have a wiring issue from the following:
If the downstream O2 is shorted to voltage, it can set a P1763 governor pressure voltage high and downstream O2 sensor shorted to voltage.
Do you have a trailer tow harness??
Unplug the brake switch and check the input on the O2 signal wire at the PCM. The voltage read normal. Reconnect the brake switch and cut the O2 sensor signal wire at the PCM. The voltage on the harness side will be high but the governor pressure read normal. The wiring above the fuel tank to melt and get into the downstream O2 sensor signal wire. The shorted O2 sensor signal wire was feeding back through the PCM into the governor pressure sensor circuit.
see if any of this helps as it has been to be true on more than one truck.
it was wired factory with the towing package! what color wires will i need to look at im good with wireing but need a little help on all the steps and wire colors and what and were to unplug
Here all all the diagrams for the tow harness wiring. The task is to follow the harness from the tow plug and pay close attention as it goes around or over the fuel tank. If you find no evidence of the wires touching thru the insulation that is all good.
Next :You will need the factory scan tool after that to see what the pressure solenoid is doing.

Here is the o2 diagram.
The brake switch test is to unplug the connector at the back pedal.
ok i will look and let you know what i find
Remember this is just a concern on a few vehicles that has happened. Yours may just be in the transmission..
ok i understand thank you i wont forget about you
Thank you
what wire is the O2 signal wire at the PCM what color still no luck fixed both sensors still have the problem
The diagram is in the post above. THe signal wire for the up stream 1/1 is Black and dark green stripe. The down stream wire sensor wire is Light green with a red stripe.
what power should the o2 sensor have also if the truck is running in park should the gov sensor have power?
also the plugs on my pcm are black white black yours says they are all black? i can clear the computer and as soon as i restart the engine the code is their again this thing is buggin me39883.9875860764
Sorry this is factory wiring diagram. C2 will be the middle connector
Yes governor has power and a pulse width modulated signal that will change as needed for pressure increase. 02 sensors will be 0 to 1.2 volts switching several times a second between .2 and .8 volts.
what is the code number that is coming back?
P1762
This code is the transmission pressure sensor to high volts or to low. It is not necessarily a sensor failure. There is something influencing this code. THe code will set after seeing this problem for three times in a row. It may be a bad governor pressure solenoid common. You should also replace the sensor as calibration has changed from old to new.
both sensors were replaced
If you are sure the wiring is correct You are left with two parts with the need to use a scan tool to make sure one or the other is bad.
1 Valve body
2 PCM
I strongly recommend you have this confirmed with a Dodge scan tool before replacing any thing else.
