2004 dodge neon check engine light is on the code reads p0440 what could be wronge and how do i reset the engine light and fix the problems

A P0440 indicates a leak in your evaporative emission system. This can be as simple as a gas cap left loose. So first make sure your gas cap is on tight and has a good seal on it. Have the code cleared and see if it comes back. If it does you will need to have a smoke test done. This done with a special machine that injects smoke into th fuel tank system and pinpoints where the leak is. Most rpair shops can do this test.
