The lean code could be the result of a vacuum leak on one side of the engine, like the intake manifold gasket, a loose vacuum hose, or leaks at the PCV hose or EGR valve.

Or, if your engine has a lot of miles on it, the exhaust valves might be worn and leaking some compression. Any air that leaks past the valves and gets into the exhaust will fool the O2 sensor and make the computer think the engine is running too lean.
