2002 dodge ram 1500 sport: a code of P0455 and P0442

Resolved Question:

Hello, I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 sport with the 4.7 motor. I am currently experiencing a code of P0455 and P0442. Just wondering what would cause these problems?

P0442 is usually an indication of a small leak in the EVAP System.
Tighten or replace the Gas Cap.

P0455 is usually Evaporative Control Monitor, which may be picking up on the small Leak.

Replace the Cap & have the Codes cleared

Reply to Lurch's Post: I have a brand new oem gas cap on the truck and have cleared the codes a couple of times. The P0442 is a new code that I am experiencing the other is old as I am trying to figure it out myself.

The P0442 indicates a Vacuum Leak in the EVAP System. If you think the Cap is sealing, then you would need to check the lines going into the Tank & Cannister for any leaks. Sometimes the Hose splits at the Cannister under the Hood.
A smoke Test may need to be done to Isolate the Leak
