Good afternoon, the axles do just pull out howver they require a little force to pop them out. There is a retainer ring on the transmission that holds the axles in place. You can pop the axles out by using a pry bar and popping the axle off the retainer. You will see the retainer on the trans axle stubs once the cv axle is removed. LEt me know if you need further info.
