My panasonic Lumix dms-TS3 will not power on. New battery placed and no power. Battery voltage is good by battery tester. family member placed USB cable from a computer to the HDMI port on the camera trying to download pictures. Would this have damaged the camera?
It is possible that the application of incorrect voltage levels (those normal for USB ports) to a port designed for HDMI, could have damaged the camera's digital circuitry extensively.( I would have said it was certain to have caused damage, but for a trifle of uncertainty as to the details of how the USB cable could have been applied to an HDMI port. )I advise, before either consigning the camera to being repaired (which is likely to be free of charge if the camera is still within warranty conditions) or replaced, to check whether the metal terminals in the camera, that take voltage off the battery, are clean and in good shape generally.
