What you ask about is a fairly frequent issue with Vivitar cameras. Usually it happens when they are newly bought - please confirm that your camera is new rather than of some considerable age in-use.Did you install the camera software from the disc that came with your camera yet? if not, it is advisable to do so, or the image transfer will not work (except, of course, by removing the memory card and placing it in a card reader or card slot appropriate for it, in or connected to your computer, and reading the images off it that way.)
Experience: Working with digital cameras & questions for nearly 7 years.
new camera got at xmas .have downloaded to my computer about 2 months ago without problems. All i get is blue screen showing MSDC in white letters
MSDC stands for something like Mass Storage Device [etc.] It means the camera is in storage device mode, that is it is accessible from the computer as a storage device.Go toStart - Computer(or in older machinesStart - My Computer)and look for an icon representing your camera. Double-click upon that to 'open' the camera as a storage device with files on it, in an Explorer window. See if you can access it that way, and get at its files that way. This will confirm - if it works - that the camera has nothing much wrong with it. Let me know what you find out by trying this, please.Do you still have the disc that came with this Vivitar camera? if so, you might want to try reinstalling the software for it - that may be why you have no downloading going on and no other reaction by the computer to the camera being connected.
after all that I found another lead tried it and all works well.
Problem was duff USB to camera lead
Thanks for all your help from across "the pond"
Best wishes, Derek M.
I appreciate your appreciation of my efforts... I should have suggested swapping the USB, I confess. Good to work with you on this case, and good luck for the future.
