I have 8mm 2-hour tape videotape footage (not digital) shot with a Sony Handycam Video 8 CCD-TR84 NTSC camera. I want to digitize this and put it on my Apple iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) OS 10.5.8, so I can edit it in iMovie. How do I do this and what equipment must I buy? Thank you.
Already Tried: I tried playing it in the camera, and attaching that camera to a 2nd Sony camera, the Sony Digital 8 Handycam and attaching that 2nd camera to the computer via Firewire. However, the iMac only accepts digital input, not passed through nondigital videotape. I thought the 2nd camera might digitize it, but it didn't.

What is a TV tuner, and how do I use it? I don't understand what a Television tuner has to do with converting non-digital tape into my iMac computer. These Sony tapes measure 63mm by 100mm by 15mm. Do I need to purchase other cables to do this? Will this tuner allow me to capture the video on the computer so I can use computer software to edit the video, or will it merely allow me to view the video on the computer?
A TV Tuner is a device which helps you to record analog video onto your computer. A TV Tuner device is mostly connected via USB. The camera is connected to TV Tuner via AV. Then play the video in camera and you can see the video in TV Tuner software installed in your Mac. In the software there will be an option to record the video being played.
