I don't know how I got the original abrasion--I just looked down and there was loose skin and dried blood. I cleaned it off and went to the beach where I thought the salt water might help heal it. That was 2 weeks ago. It is not warm, but it is painful. It is on my lower left leg.

Thank you very much for the photo sent.

This is an infected wound that can be treated at home.

It does not look like cancer or bed sore nor does it look like gangrene.

You should clean it with povidone iodine available over the counter once daily.

Use Mupirocin ointment on the area twice a day for 10 days

You can take over the counter Paracetamol 500 once daily for 10 days to reduce the pain and inflammation.

Please do let me know if you have any further queries.

There is no permanent scar or damage if you treat it early .

I do not have to worry about cellulitis? I am also diabetic.
Expert:  Dr. Pravin replied 1 month ago.

This does not look like cellulitis.

Diabetic state may increase the duration of healing time.
