chemical burn on scalp from powdered bleach. What should I do?
Optional Information: Person's Gender: Female Person's Age: 61 Already Tried: Aquaphor and Ojon oil
Hi,When did this burn occur? What does it look like presently?
About 2 months ago. My hair is falling out now on the top of my head. It hurts to touch the roots.
Is the affected area dry or does it still oozy any fluid?
Dry and sensitive
Okay. How big was the burn area? Would a photograph of the affected area be possible at your convenience?
The top of my head. No. You cannot see anything. It is just pink
Okay, typing out an answer. Be back with you shortly.
OK
It sounds like you have scarring because of the chemical burn. This may have destroyed the hair follicles in the area and produced chronic irritation which is causing the itching. I would suggest mixing 1% cortizone cream with bacitracin ointment and applying it twice a day on the affected area for 2-4 weeks. Tablet Biotin 5 mg twice a day will help hair regrowth and slow down hair fall when used for 3-6 months. All of these are available over the counter without a prescription. If this doesn't help then you should show this to a doctor in person for prescription steroid creamsPlease feel free to ask if you have any queries. Please remember to only rate my answer when you are satisfied. Thank you. XXXXX ever color my hair again?
You're most welcome! Yes you can but wait at least 6 months to give the scalp time to recover. Even after this make sure you ask you apply the hair color to a small area behind you ear to check whether you are allergic to it or not. Your dermatologist can also devise a formal patch test to check this.
