I used tea tree oil on a pimple recently, and the oil burnt my skin raw. The trauma caused a cold sore, which I have had for 12 days now. The scab fell off three days ago, and the skin is still pink at the site. Am I contagious? I want to kiss my bf but don't want to risk giving him the virus, or risk him transferring the virus to other parts of my body. Am I safe?

Hello
Once the area crusts you are no longer contagious. So smooch away!
Happy to answer further questions.
Really happy to hear, I was getting confused by thoughts of the virus still shedding? But the skin is fully in tact now, its just the lingering redness.
So theres no chance of him transferring the virus to my genitals, or him getting it himself? Thanks so much
I cannot say there is no chance. It should not be contagious on the outside since there was a scab, crusted and fell off. However, though the viral load has most likely markedly diminished, I cannot guarantee that there are no viruses remaining i the oral cavity.
the sore itself was immediately under my nostril, so not on my lips. but i suppose since it has been 12 days, and the skin is unbroken i should be fine. i'm just scaring myself. thankyou for your advice
You're welcome.
Even a mouthwash will help. If yu are concerned you might ask your physician for Periogard.
It is prescription and is more viricidal than the usual mouthwash.
