This disease periodically blows up with fierce inflamed blisters and violent itching. This is on both of my upper thighs. Genitals not infected though
Optional Information: Person's Gender: Male Person's Age: 61 Already Tried: Every OTC there is. Thought it was psorias at first. Tried Phosiasis gell, Cortaide, Benadryl ant-itching gell, powder. Has gotten really bad the past 3 months. I live in a hot climate with limited AC.
Hi. I will do my best to advise. However, please note that this does not substitute an in-person consultation with a doctor. Are you able to upload pictures of your skin? How long have you had it for now?
Unable to send pictures until tomorrow. This started about a year ago but in a very mlid manner as skin discoloration, thought it was due to body sweat as I live in a hot environment with little AC.I even stopped using bleach in my laundry thinking it might be skin burn. The past 3 months have erupted to sweeping circular rashes. The leading edge of these rashes is where the blisters form and become swollen and violently itchy. The right leg rashes extend down half way to my knee at the moment and appear to be gradually heading south. I also have a 2-3 inch circular ring, same symptoms, on my body between my armpit and waist. The thighs area is not one large rash but three or more with clear untouched skin between.
Ok. Please upload the pictures tomorrow or whenever feasible and I will be able to get a better idea. You have three options for sending me pictures:1. The quickest: upload the pictures here using the paperclip like icon in your chat box. You can't find it if you are browsing via a mobile/ipad or a non-internet explorer browser like google chrome etc. Try uploading via internet explorer. If browsing via Ipad/mobile: try emailing the photos to yourself and access/ upload them via your computer if you have one. 2. Upload the pictures to online photo sharing websites like Flickr/photobox/picasa web albums and paste the link here. 3. Alternatively you can send them by email XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX with the subject line 'FAO dermatology expert Dr. Sasi Attili'. Please note that you HAVE to send them from the email address you registered with on justanswer OR paste the link to your question in your email, or else the email won't be forwarded to me. Also do note though that emails might take up to 24 hours to be forwarded to me (and hence first two options preferable), though usually they are forwarded within a few hours. I shall get back once I receive the photos. Hope to hear from you soon.
Will likely send them as option 3 as I am not familiar with the other methods. Any chance you have an old fashioned fax machine and number ?
I am afraid not. The best thing is to send them via email, if options 1/2 are not feasible.
Will do... thank you.
You are welcome
Thanks. I received the pictures just now. The pictures are highly suggestive of a fungal infection. The best way to treat this is with Terbenafine tablets 250mg once daily for 4 weeks. You need to see your doctor for this. Unfortunately over the counter treatments will not help. It would be a good idea for your doctor to do a simple skin test (skin scrapings) to confirm the fungal infection, before starting the treatment though.Nothing to worry. Once treated, in general the infection should not come back again. But using a loofah in the shower everyday will exfoliate the skin and stop the fungus from coming back, as fungus tends to grow on dead/ sweaty skin.
Last question... how does one contract this ?
Excessive sweating! The fungus is there all around us. But people who sweat a lot, tend to attract the fungus and help it grow on the body.
Experience: MRCP (London, UK), CCT-Dermatology (UK).
Just to let you know that your diagnosis was spot on. I am 18 days into the treatment you suggested and the problem has completely dissipated apart from the skin markings. Hopefully they will fade in time. Thanks for all your help.
You are welcome. Thanks for keeping me posted
