Hi,

The contagious period is from the appearance of the first blister till all of the blisters have scabbed/dried up - usually about 7-10 days. And this contagiousness is only for unimmunized children who have not had chickenpox. Shingles and chicken pox are caused by the same virus and though shingles cannot spread from person to person, it can cause chickenpox in youth children who have not yet been exposed to the chickenpox virus.

Hope this information is useful, please feel free to ask if you have any queries.
