Customer Question

i had this piece of skin looked like a circumsion scar had it all my life. it looked diffrent one day went get it looked at. doc biospied it and results came back old condaloma never even looked like a wart looked at 1000 of pics. they ran a pcr test which came back negative for all hpv sequeces. they faxed me the results and that was it. i was in shock i was devastated for a month. so question is was it a wart or not thinking theres no hpv cant be a wart. and if i can spread hpv, cant spread it if theres none. idk what to think mixed feelings that i have it and then i dont

bestdermdoc :

If the PCR was negative, then the piece of skin was most likely more like a skin tag, which can occur in folds of skin all over, like armpits and groin. However, humans do have to consider HPV with any new partner and you should always consider condoms until in a monogamous relationship. The new HPV vaccine is currently being tested on young men with encouraging results and you should ask your doctor when it will be available for you, and get it! Best,

Customer :

what is a pcr test and what does it do? after the biospy my curcumsion scar ring what ever its called started to thicken and got a little hard how long till that goes away its been 2 months since the biospy. i remember that little piece of skin was senitive like it had more exrotic feeling i was wondering if it could of been a piece of my foreskin from circumsion. i also was informed im borderline diabetic wonder that has anything to do with it, im just really scared i used a condom everytime just panicing

Customer :

and why would they say old condaloma? and the dermatologist before the test said it looked like nothing and called me in and was like you have hpv went on about getting my girlfriend checked and everything. then he faxes me a paper from the hospital saying pcr test was absent from hpv sequences. so idk hard time coping with this. sorry for going on have alot of questions

Customer :

If theres no HPV there is no Warts right?

Customer :

Therefore I have nothing?

bestdermdoc :

Polymerase chain reaction: It is a test done which slices up proteins such as DNA and RNA and counts the number of repeating pieces. All proteins from viruses and other microbes (like the agent of HPV) have there own sequences highly specific to them, and therefore PCR is an extremely sensitive test. Scars can take even 1 year for the collagen remodeling process whereby the scar is less thick. If it was residual foreskin, it makes sense that it becaome a skin tag. I suspect they called it "old condyloma" because it was more of a skin tag. Yes, no HPV=no warts.

Customer :

could hpv be somewhere else on my penis that the biospy missed im really curious or does hpv would be everywhere not just in that one spot

bestdermdoc :

Theoretically: Yes. Clinically and applicable: No.

bestdermdoc :

I consider these several questions answered and case closed.
