I have large pores and blackheads on my upperlip..from shaving

Customer Question

I have large pores and blackheads on my upperlip..from shaving and hair removal treatments.
What can I do to minimize the enlarged pores?
Or, do I have to live with this embarrassment forever???

dermdoc19 :

Retinoids will help with blackheads. Tazorac or Retin A microgel would be the two best ones. I would augment this with a Salicylic Wash like Sal Ac Wash. A Beta peel will also help. It is difficult to decrease the size of pores but you might try the Fraxel. This is a type of laser treatment.

Is this something I can purchase over the counter? Or, do I need to make an appointment

JACUSTOMER-u62ia3h6- :

with my dermatologist.

dermdoc19 :

Sal Ac is OTC, and of course, the peels can be done by an aethetician, but the retinoids are prescription. Retinol by ROC is a decent retinoid and you could start with that.

JACUSTOMER-u62ia3h6- :

This will minimize the appearance of the pores.

Thank you for you help.

JACUSTOMER-u62ia3h6- :

Sorry..will this minimize the appearance of the pores on my lip.

dermdoc19 :

Roc Retinol is OTC, Salicylic washes are OTC, some people also claim microdermabrasion and glycolic peels works to shrink pores. These are done in medi-spas, though I am not convinced they work.
