Customer Question

I have a filling that recently came out. Part of my tooth broke off with the filling (its one of the back teeth) I now have an abscess on the gum line directly below the broken tooth. I know I need to get in to see my dentist but until I can is it safe for me to kiss and perform oral sex on my girlfriend?

Welcome to Justanswer.I will do my best to answer your question.I am not a great typist,be patient and feel free to ask if anything is unclear. The salt water rinses are good as well as using straight peroxide to keep the bacteria count down.If you have an abcess it is important to get on an antibiotic to keep the infection from spreading and causing more swelling. There are two options for infected teeth..extraction or root canal treatment and that should be taken care of ASAP.As far as your girlfriend goes,if she does not mind the odor of the abcessed tooth coming from your breath, kissing her is not necessarily going to harm her.As for the oral sex..it is up to you and her.It is unlikely that having oral sex with her will effect you...but you might want to consider informing her of your abcessed tooth before proceeding.I know of no current studies on whether abcessed teeth can cause vaginal infections but it is probably better to hold off until your abcess is resolved. If you have any further question please ask..I will do a medline search for you to see if there is a case in the archives documenting direct infection from an abcessed tooth.
