Cold or warm may help. There is a product sold at most pharmacies called red cross toothache tooth ointment. Several of my patients have found this to be useful. If the pain is that intractable, you can go to an emergency room. The physician there may be able to do a dental nerve block that will numb the area. Ultimately you need to see a dentist to have the situation assessed and treated.

Red cross stuff was too hard to use and sting, but my brother also did buy a gum called Dent's toothache gum from walgreens which has 20% benzocaine and helped to patch up the cavity. My throbbing nerve pain stop immediately the minute I use it. Thanks for your help; It saved me a trip to ER.
Glad to have helped.
