I started with a new dentist who prescribes deep cleaning and the application of Arestin. I have two questions regarding the use of Arestin:1. I'm good with the direction however, I struggle with the cost of Arestin [my plan does not cover it]. The dentist wants to charge $93.00 per pocket [x 10 pockets]. Seems high.2. How frequently are Arestin treatments needed? [You can imagine the escalating costs based on the answer to this one].Thanks Much

Hello -- Arestin is one of many different medicines available for treatment of periodontal pockets. The usage of Arestin depends on the pocket depth and level of periodontal disease. It wouldn't hurt you to get a second opinion, many dentists offer them at little or no cost. You may find a dentist or periodontist who would treat your periodontal disease differently with systemic antibiotics, nonsurgical periodontal cleanings, or both. Arestin is a very expensive medicine even for the dentist. I only tell you this so you understand that your dentist isn't making a killing on you by prescribing the use of Arestin in multiple sites. I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if I can provide any further clarification.
