My daughter lost her top central incisor right after Halloween, and the tooth has still not erupted at the gum line. The gum itself is red and looks swollen and she will not bite or chew on that side. Her dentist said to just give it a little bit more time but I am concerned b/c it has already been over 3 months. Should I seek a second opinion or insist that xrays be done to evaluate the area?

How old is your child? The front 2 teeth will usually erupt around age 6-7 years. The gums will look bulbous and reddish when the teeth are beginning to break through the skin. I would just wait for her next 6 month check up before getting a second opinion. Usually if the tooth got pulled before its normal sequence of exfoliation then it will take a little longer to come out. Just be patient and it will come out!!
She is 8yrs old. Her baby teeth that have fallen out, have all came out at a very slow pace. She complains that the gum itself is sore and will not let anyone touch it. The upper part of the gum seems to be swollen as well.
Just be patient! Like I mentioned earlier, if the tooth is knocked out early then it will come in alittle later. It sounds like it is coming in!! If it hasn't come in within her next 6 month recall visit then request a x-ray to be taken and ask the dentist to show you the tooth on the x-ray! Again be patient and mother nature will do its thing.
