Ask a Dentist and Get Your Dental Questions Answered
Thank you for your question and welcome to Just Answer.
The main reason people have crooked teeth is that there is not enough space in their jaws to allow all the teeth to line up perfectly. That is, the length of the teeth lined up perfectly straight is longer then the size of the jaw that they fit in. Therefore the teeth must overlap in order to all fit into the available space. In addition, parafunctional habits, such as sucking your thumb or a tongue thrust will cause the teeth to move out of place.
There is not relation whatsoever between the size of the teeth and the size of the jaws. Each is independently inherited from your parents, so you might get large teeth from one parent and small jaws from the other.
An orthodontist can help you by repositioning your teeth in the jaws. You can find the nearest orthodontist to you by following this link:

but how can u tell if u have a small mouth and u didnt inherit a small mouth from ur parents?
The only way to know that information is to have a consultation with an orthodontist. He/she will take an X-ray of your jaws and models of your teeth. Then the teeth are measured off the models and the space of the jaw on the X-ray is measured and the two are compared. This is an oversimplification of the process but you get the idea. I hope this helps.
Here are some resources to check out to find low cost and/or free dental care:
1. Call your local dental society and see if there are any programs, charitable organizations or foundations operating in your area that will do your work for a discounted fee. You can find the details of your local dental society by clicking here:
2. Consider having your work done at a dental school. The fees charged are much less than those charged by a private dentist. Here is a list with links of all the dental schools in the USA, hopefully there is one near you:
Outside of these options you can always look for an understanding local dentist that will help you out by working for a reduced fee. Ask your friends, family and colleagues which dentist they like and start by asking that dentist.
In addition, here is a website that lists dental offices that offer free and discounted clinics all across the country. Search for one in your area. Read each listing carefully as restrictions apply to some of the listed outlets.
I hope this is what you are looking for. Please let me know.
Make an appointment with an orthodontist. Most people have enough of a discrepancy in their bite to warrant orthodontic treatment. Even though your teeth might look straight, they might not mesh correctly, and braces will take care of that as well. So start there.
