IS LOOKING AT CHILD PORNOGRAPHY A FEDERAL CRIME?

IS LOOKING AT CHILD PORNOGRAPHY A FEDERAL CRIME?

Hello. It depends. Receiving or possessing child pornography is usually a federal crime, punishable by 5 to 20 years in jail, IF the images traveled through interstate commerce or across state lines. So if the child pornography was viewed on the Internet, or received via US mail, federal law would apply (as would state law). If the item did not cross state lines or involve interstate commerce, then state law only will apply. It is illegal in all fifty states so there would be some crime committed.
