If the attorney is not acting in his best interest and properly representing him, then he can ask the Judge to order that his PD withdraw from the case and new counsel be appointed, if there is a problem. If he were to fire her and advise the court that he does not want her representing him, then he would have to represent himself, unless he can afford to retain private counsel. He can not be forced to take a plea deal and has a right to take the stand in his own defense, if he wants to, at trial as well.
