Customer Question

Is it illegal to pick the Sego Lily in the state of Utah because it is the state flower? I have heard it is protected; but I have heard it isn't technically illegal, just highly discouraged. Internet research isn't yielding much except for this article: http://e.standard.net/topics/features/2011/03/13/consider-sego-lily

Thank you for your question. I look forward to working with you to provide you the information you are seeking for educational purposes only.

I am afraid there is no state law in Utah making the Sego Lily a protected flower. It is more rumor that because it is the state flower it is protected. However, the Utah Native Plant Society explains it is not illegal to pick the Sego Lily as long as you have CONSENT OF THE LANDOWNER, which means on state or government land you cannot pick them or any flowers without the consent of the landowner.
